Course Overview

Hi there! My name is Thomas Faunce, and I’m dyslexic. I want to change the perception that Dyslexia is a learning disorder. Instead, it should be seen as a learning difference with strengths and weaknesses.

Welcome to the course “Understanding Dyslexia Grades K-8.” This course is designed for teachers, parents, and other professionals who work with elementary school students in grades K-8. Dyslexia is a common learning disability that affects approximately 1 in 5 students, making it essential to understand and recognize the characteristics of dyslexia to provide appropriate support.

This course provides a comprehensive overview of dyslexia, including its definition, symptoms, and impact on learning. We will also explore different assessment methods, effective teaching strategies, accommodations, and modifications to support students with dyslexia. Furthermore, we will discuss professional development opportunities.

By the end of this course, you will have a deeper understanding of dyslexia and the tools to support students with dyslexia in their learning journey. We hope that this course will provide you with valuable and knowledgeable skills that will help you make a positive impact on the lives of your students. So let’s get started!
